Larry's Running Blog

A rambling commentary on my running and a log of what I've been up to with my training. It, hopefully, will show my progress and improvements towards my running goals and enjoyment of keeping myself fit and healthy.

Friday 13th January

The sciatica didn't seem so bad today so I thought I'd venture out for a run. I had intended doing 8 miles but ended up cutting it short at 7 instead as the hip/bum ache returned and I didn't want to make any worse.
I really want to stay completely injury free for the next few weeks, especially with this 15 mile off-road event coming up at the end of January. That will make my back hurt, i've no doubt, but I want it to stay ok till then. I've wanted to do this event for a long time and I will be very disappointed if I have to pull out before hand, so I will be sensible and not do overdo things now.
After that, there is 3 months until the first marathon, plenty of time for lots more training.
A cold and breezy day, it took me a couple of miles to warm up properly but I was find once I got going. An enjoyable run and a warm glow afterwards, mainly off-road.
I was surprised at the pace as I had head-wind and mud to contend with, I thought I would have been slower. Nice surprise though!

7 miles
1 hour 15mins
Average HR 148
Average pace 10.71
