Larry's Running Blog

A rambling commentary on my running and a log of what I've been up to with my training. It, hopefully, will show my progress and improvements towards my running goals and enjoyment of keeping myself fit and healthy.

Another short run yesterday. The weather was terrible, gale force winds and rain but I didn't mind once I was out there running.
I had a false start as I donned the Nike Frees (haven't worn them for the last couple of runs which have been pain free) and immediately the knee pain was back so I turned back home after a quarter of a mile and changed into the Reeboks and set off again, this time with no pain. Strange.
The calf did protest today though, I kept it to walk/run and stretched a couple of times as I am scared of tearing it again. Its probably a bit sore as its healed tight, I've booked a massage for Tuesday.
As for OSN's suggestion of keeping my runs to 5 miles until December, I am giving this some consideration as it makes sense to get everything strong again before I increase my mileage, though I am a little concerned because I should be putting in some long runs soon. But I think its probably a good idea.

If I thought there was any chance at all you might be able to stick to it I would have suggested keeping your mileage down until after the New Year. But I guess we have to be realistic sometimes, eh?

It seems to me Larry, from following your training via the blog, that you don't seem to give injuries enough time to heal fully and you're far too quick to ramp up the mileage. Sometimes you have inexplicable large jumps in your mileage (it's asking for trouble).

Enthusiasm is great but not when it prevents you from getting to the starting line time after time.

    Look after yourself Larry, ((())).
